Spiral Notes:
The following
styles are representative of the diameter that is shown. There will be
variations in rope due to increase or decrease in the shaft diameter.
We recommend using
Sap Maple to obtain purity of wood coloration. Sap maple tends to be very white
and has minor grain. Other woods such as
American Poplar
are inconsistent in color, can be green or brown in spots. Basswood
and Poplar are very porous when taking stain and the hairs of the wood
tend to swell;
they are sold generally as paint grade for this reason. Other hardwoods
such as cherry, walnut, oak, etc have harder properties and tend to be more
refined.
Saying all this,
an expert finisher can make any material look like refined furniture.
Knotty Pine or
Cedar are the best woods for outside use. We still recommend using
clear pressure treat to add a preservative to the wood for exterior
applications.
