Scamozzi History |
Scamozzi is classical style based on the Ionic Order. In simple terms it is an Ionic with 4 scrolls ie volutes. The style was created by architect Vincenzo Scamozzi in the 16th century and thus named accordingly. The Scamozzi style has 4 volutes which became a solution for corners as the more traditional Roman Ionic Capitals must be cut awkwardly to accommodate corners of buildings. Columns with a Scamozzi capitals should have an Attic base. The capitals that are made from molds are hollow with lintel's load on the column's shaft through the shaft and directly to the substrate. |
