The Tuscan Order
of Columns is the simplest of the classical styles originating from the
Etruscan community in ancient Italy. They are available
load bearing or decorative. The capitals have a squared abacus above the
round echinus or one can use the more elaborate Doric Capital with a
graduated Abacus. The bases are denoted by
a round torus and square plinth. Imperial Productions®
offers Tuscan columns with Tapered or
Non-Tapered
shafts (ie stylus). Most tapered shafts have the correct entasis (ie Taper
ends 2/3rds down the stylus from the top of the shaft with the last third
being
straight.
Specify Whole or Split for Post Wrap or Pilaster applications and custom
historic duplications. Non Wood
composite columns are made from
molds which includes
FRP-PolyCompTM,
GRG-NeoPlasterTM,
Fiberglass,
ArchPolymerTM
and
GFRC-ZeamentTM.
These non-wood Tuscan columns are available 5 Feet to 30 Feet up to 36"
diameters. Custom
Hardwood Tuscan columns are made to a maximum of 36" diameter 3 to 24 Feet high in 24
hardwood species to any specified size with load bearing solid or hollow
cores. For load bearing applications we offer
White Oak Load Plugs that fit into the

Tuscan Capitals
They are sold separately for remodeling projects. Capitals that are made in
molds use Fiberglass OR ArchPolymerTM
standard or fire rated for commercial applications. For those that
require solid capitals that are load bearing, hardwood is the specified
material, particularly white oak for exterior applications. Pine is
traditionally used for exterior use, however it is considerably softer
and less resilient to the elements. For interior decor we have 24
Hardwoods to select from including
Cherry, Alder, Maple, Red Oak, Walnut, Mahogany. All hardwood capitals
are custom made as per your measurements and can have the Square Abacus
and the round Echinus made in specified sizes.

Tuscan Bases
They are
sold separately for those that have to replace rotted column bases. The
can be ordered from ImperialProductions®
whole or split for pilaster or post wrap applications. Those bases that
are made in molds use Fiberglass OR ArchPolymerTM
standard or fire rated for interior commercial use. These hollow
bases wrap load bearing plugs or envelop column shafts. For those that
require solid bases that are load bearing, they negate the load bearing
plugs. We offer solid bases made from ZeamentTM
a portland cement composite that is also made from molds. Solid
Tuscan bases are made custom sized from Hardwood. Most architects
today specify white oak for exterior applications, noting that the
gunnels of clipper ships were made from White Oak. White Pine was
traditionally used in the past 100 years for exterior applications,
however it is considerably softer and less resilient to the elements.
For interior we have 24
Hardwood bases to select from including
Cherry, Alder, Maple, Red Oak, Walnut, Farmed Mahogany for high end
green projects. All hardwood bases are custom made as per your specified
measurements and can have the Torus or Plinth in variable sizes.

Custom Tuscan Columns
Tuscan columns can be manufactured with specific variations of Height, Diameter, and Split
Columns for pilasters, post wraps, outside corners, inside corners, and
wall wraps applications. There are variations for Tuscan Tapered and
Non-Tapered styling. Hardwoods offer the greatest flexibility of micro
size specifications. Custom column are priced as per drawing or specifications submitted.

Columns
Fiberglass is a
combination of
polyester resins and glass fibers with a Gelcoat covering. They are
made from molds and approximately 2-3lbs per square foot.
Fiberglass is weather resistant and is suitable for emersion in water for
fountains. The tensile strength is superior for earthquakes and hurricane zones
however they do requires to be affixed to the substrate with hardware
supplied by others. Fiberglass columns meet
ASTM-E84 fire rating standards when specified as an upgrade. They
are molded in 2 pieces and seamlessly put together when ordered whole.
Specify in halves for post wrap or pilaster applications or wedged for
corners.
Use Bondo to cover seams.
Expensive new molds are required for customization however they can be cut to height
by the factory or others.

calcium carbonate, 5% marble chips, 25% Polyester Resins.
Meets

Decorative Columns
ArchPolymerTM
is a
synthetic wood with the same consistency as white pine. It is not a
plastic. It is rot, water and insect resistant, cuts like wood and
comes white primed. Class A Fire Rating is an upgrade that can be
specified to put into the mix. They are molded in 2 pieces. Use
our PolySpackling Compound to cover any seams. They can be cut to height
by the factory or others. For custom sizes for volume orders request a
quote.

Bases
To replace rotted or
broken bases,
GFRC-ZeamentTM
is the perfect solution! It is a composite of Portland cement and
polymers producing a smooth exterior finish. It is strong, heavy and
load bearing. The Torus and Plinth are hollow, however the Plinth is
wide enough to carry column loads. Custom sizes are available from 6" to
48" diameter. Large bases are made in 2 parts Torus and Plinth or split for reassembly around an
existing column
shaft.
